There was a traveler who came to a road sign and the sign was weather beaten. He couldn't read the direction that the sign was directing him to. The road sign formally directed people to the Fountain of Truth. It was a foggy day and there were a hundred paths going off in different directions. He looked at the road sign and couldn't figure out which path to take to the Fountain of Truth. He had a map but it also was weather beaten. He sat there looking at the sign, staring off into the fog and he didn't know how he was going to find the Fountain of Truth. But just then a fellow traveler came along the path that he had walked up. He got hopeful and said to this first man, "Fellow traveler can you point me to the Fountain of Truth?" This first man said, "You believe all that garbage, that nonsense? There is no truth. There's no Fountain of Truth, that's just superstition, you're wasting your time to look for truth. Just set up your tent here by this sign and die here. There's no truth."

He got depressed. But just then a second traveler came up and he said, "Fellow traveler, do you know the way to the Fountain of Truth?" The second man said, "Well, I don't know if there's a Fountain of Truth or not, I'm agnostic on the question. I just think we need to be open to all possibilities. I wouldn't presume to persuade you regarding which path to take, you may take one or another as you like. I don't know if you'll ever find the Fountain of Truth."

A third traveler came up and he asked him, "Fellow traveler, do you know the way to the Fountain of Truth?" The third traveler laughed and said, "Oh friend, it doesn't matter which path you take because they ultimately all circle to the Fountain of Truth. You could take one way or take another, but they all eventually end up at the Fountain of Truth." The man looked down on his map and what he could see was that several of the trails led to a cliff that people would fall off of. "You mean I could go any way?" He looked down at his map and became discouraged.

Finally a fourth traveler came down the mountain from the fog and the man said to him, "Fellow traveler, I've been told that there is no Fountain of Truth, that I need to be open minded, that any path will lead me there. Do you know the way to the Fountain of Truth?" The fourth traveler said, "Your friends were just speculating. They didn't know what they were talking about but I came from the Fountain of Truth. In fact I am the truth. Take my hand and I will lead you to the truth." He looked down at the man's hand and the man had a nail print in his hand.

Did he take his hand? Or did he just stand there by the sign?

Jesus Christ has come to be the truth, the way, and the life. To lead us to the truth, to announce to us that there is an absolute truth that governs our lives, that there is a standard of morality. But even more than that, Jesus Christ came to show us the way to the one God who loves us. We just need to take his hand.
